Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the Nearby mobile app
(package com.rishu.nearby) collects, why, and the choices you have.
Nearby is a location-based social discovery app: it helps you find and connect
with people who are physically near you.
1. Information we collect
- Location. While the app is in use, we collect your device’s precise GPS location to find people near you and to compute distances. We do not collect location in the background, and we do not track your location history.
- Account & identity. Depending on how you sign in, this may include your email address (for one-time-code login), your Telegram account identifier, or a temporary guest identifier. You may also add a display name, photo, and profile details.
- Verification. If you request a verification badge, you may submit a selfie, which is reviewed by a moderator and then used to grant or deny the badge.
- Content you create. Chat messages, voice notes, and photos you send are relayed to the people you are talking to in real time.
- Device & notifications. A push-notification token, app version, and basic device information so we can deliver alerts (new connection requests, messages, and incoming calls).
- Microphone & camera/photos. Accessed only when you choose to record a voice note or attach a photo. We do not access them otherwise.
2. How we use your information
- To show you nearby people, sorted by distance, within the radius you choose.
- To deliver connection requests, chat, and voice/video calls between connected users.
- To send push notifications you have enabled.
- To verify identity and operate safety features (blocking, reporting, moderation).
- To prevent spam, abuse, and fraud.
3. Your location is protected
We store your precise location only to compute proximity. When your profile is shown to another user, the backend converts that into an approximate distance bucket — raw latitude and longitude for one user are never returned to another user’s device.
4. How calls and messages work
Voice and video calls are peer-to-peer (WebRTC); the media streams flow directly between the two devices and not through our servers. Calls are only possible between users who have an accepted connection. Our servers act only as a signaling broker to set up the call.
5. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers that help us operate the app (for example, push delivery via Google Firebase Cloud Messaging / Apple Push Notification service, and our hosting provider).
- Other users, limited to the profile information and content you choose to make visible to them — never your exact location.
- Authorities, where required by law or to protect the safety of users.
6. Safety controls
You can block any user, which hides you from each other across discovery, requests, chat, and calls. You can report users; reports are reviewed by our moderation team.
7. Data retention & deletion
We keep account data while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated personal data at any time — directly in the app (Settings → Delete account) or by request. See How to delete your account. We honor deletion immediately in-app, or within 30 days for emailed requests, except where we must retain limited records for legal or safety reasons.
8. Children
Nearby is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise them, contact us using the details below.
10. Changes
We may update this policy; we will revise the “Last updated” date above when we do.
